Truth and Charisma

Having just listened to Ron Paul’s farewell address to the Congress this past week, I had a couple of thoughts I thought I might share here.

It is amazing how powerless truth seems to be when it is not accompanied by appropriate and desperately needed charisma. The TRUTH of Liberty is one thing, but the CHARISMA of Liberty is quite another. In short it is clear that both truth and Charisma are required: “My words are Spirit…”

The importance of the element of charisma is well illustrated in Adolph Hitler. Without truth, but with a lot of charisma he was able to focus the known world of his day on absolute tyranny.

The unique beginning of America is that its founders had both truth and charisma, and they had both together with a willingness to die for the truth. In our own day we are drowning in a sea of media/entertainment, dominated by debauched charisma, and virtually absent of truth.

These are surely thought provoking days. It is a shame when education no longer concerns itself with how to think, but only what to think? :-/ In short we are living in a time and place when education has become an extension of media.

As I thought a little more about this I was reminded of my old friend Phil Crane.

Where integrity in Congress is concerned Phil Crane was Ron Paul’s predecessor. He not only had integrity, but Phil also had Charisma. I got to know Phil quite well back in the 60s and 70s. He wrote the forward for my book, “Inflation: The Ultimate Graven Image,” published in 1982. That book was born out of an insight that came to me in 1974 at a C.M.R.E. (Committee for Monetary Research and Education) meeting in Washington DC. The insight was: “Inflation begins the moment that government calls money something else.”

Phil was the main speaker at that event. He was introduced by Henry Hazlitt, the best known and read conservative of his day. Henry’s little book, “Economics in One Lesson” is still available today, and exposes much of the media talk about the consequences of hurricane Sandy for the foolishness that it is.

As it happened my pocket recorder was running that evening in 1974, and I have since digitized the remarks of both Henry, and Phil. Phil Crane had just gotten the Bill through Congress restoring gold ownership to the American people, and that was pretty much the focus of the evening. The audios of both Phil’s and Henry’s remarks are now available on the Media Page of the blog – found on the top tool bar.  Just scroll down to the 1974 Phil Crane speech, and the Henry Hazlitt Intro.

Bless You Today!

Total Destruction of the Land

“See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes. He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction.” (Malachi 4:5, 6 NIV)

We had another rather full day here of things that were not anticipated. As a result I was brought back to this passage, and saw it in a new light.

Today, the finger of the Lord was directed to Verse 6, I had already seen that this was not about old creation fathering or parenting, but rather about the parenting of a new creation, that done in and by the Spirit in the lives of believers.  But what was underlined for me today is the fact that it is fathering or parenting that is found wanting, and the result or fruit of such want is “the land stricken with total destruction.”  Aren’t we glad that the good side of this promise applies to spiritual relationships, and not old creation relationships?

But what hit me today is that it is fathering or parenting that is found wanting, not mentoring, not discipleship, not “leadership,” not brothering or sistering, but “fathering,” (parenting).  There is something about the content of parenting that is wanting, and the lack of which results in “total destruction.”  There is a particular relational content that is needed due to negligence, dysfunction, abuse, or failure in fathering.  Spiritual fathering or parenting is not given for the purpose of supplying just any relational deficit, but specifically for the deficit in healthy parenting.  We have just seen the result of what that deficit looks like where national politics is concerned, and sad to say we have seen the result of that deficit in what’s been calling itself “church” for two millennia.  As I thought about this in the context of my day today, I realized that the truth of this was at the center of every one of my experiences of and with my spiritual children.  I was not given to them, and they were not given to me to supply just any deficit, but parental deficits in particular. And looking back I realized that in every case, I had been given what was needed for the healing of those deficits.  I didn’t always do very well in bringing that supply to their lives, but it was always there supplied by the same Spirit Who supplied the relationships.

This is so very important to understand, because failure of understanding results in wrong and broken expectations.  Parenting or fathering is a different supply from brothering/sistering or discipleship or mentoring or leadership for that matter.  It is possible to be a not fully equipped brother or sister, without being in deficit where parental content is concerned, and vice versa.  This is to say that the content of a parent child relationship is different from a sibling relationship, so not being so good at being a sibling doesn’t disqualify us as a son, daughter, mother or father.

Perhaps enough said about this for now.  The importance of this understanding is tremendous in light of the “total destruction” that resides in our misunderstanding of the promises of God.

Desolation and The Desolate Woman

The following is an explanation that will help in comprehending much that is in the audio presentation, “The Needs of The Bride” (see below)

By way of introduction to Isaiah 53, I need to make an observation that was brought home to me by the prompting of The Spirit to look up the word “astonied.”  It appears in Isaiah 52:14. The N.A.S. has it, “Just as many were astonished (KJV-“astonied”) at you, (my people) So His appearance was marred more than any man, and His form more than the sons of men.”  In the original, the word here translated “astonished” or “astonied” is the same word that is translated “desolation” in the “abomination of desolation” of Daniel.

For the Hebrew reader there would be a connection – an important connection, I believe between the two passages, and from there the Olivet discourses. With that in mind we could understand Isaiah 52:14 it to read, “Just as there were many who were made desolate at the sight of you, my people, in the same way His appearance is also enough to make one desolate.” I believe this is what the Woman, the “desolate woman,” of Isaiah 54:1 (same word in the original) saw, and realized, and embraced – her desolation was His desolation.  His desolation was the response of His love for her. It is His love that transforms her into the “drop dead gorgeous woman,” but first, she must own up to her own desolation.  It is this desolation of the flesh that is the fertility of the Spirit.  In his letter to the Galatians, Paul tells us that this woman is our mother, that she is the free woman, represents the New Jerusalem that comes down form Heaven, and her children, which children we are, are likewise free.

I trust this will be enough to help in understanding much that is said in the “Needs of The Bride audio” which I consider to be one of the most inspired messages that I ever was prompted to deliver.
