What is YOUR favorite one-liner?

One that made you laugh?
One that you find yourself saying a lot now?

In honor of Jay and his birthday today, a NEW PAGE on the LovingLikeGod blog has been created for these little gems, and any stories you might have around them.

Behavior appropriate to the level of contempt

The following is a new, previously unpublished writing by Jay Ferris, from November 2010.

contemptMatthew 13:58 – “And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.”
Mark 6:5 – “He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them.”

Being the father of two sons, I had occasion to visit court rooms in various places and times. One of the very strong impressions that was made on me there was the importance of body language in the presence of a judge. On one occasion I witnessed a young man with hands in pockets and a slouched posture, severely rebuked by the judge for such contempt in his court room and presence. Body language most often speaks much louder than words. It was an impression that has stayed with me well into my adult life.

Some years ago I went on what might be considered a diplomatic mission. I went with the advice and consent of someone who at the time was one of the most recognized and recognizable elders of the Church in Charlotte. The mission was for the purpose of looking into whether or not a local “leader” might possibly be another elder in the city. When I got there a “worship” service was just getting started, and I entered the hall and tried to enter into what was happening. I couldn’t help but notice that “the leader/founder” and his assistants were not participating, but rather in the midst of things, even at the front of the hall, (in full view of those who were there). He and his assistant were engaged in conversation, including what appeared to be jokes, including body language, (hands in pocket, etc) that brought back to mind the judge’s rebuke of years before.

For me, I knew immediately that there was no eldership there appropriate to what God calls “church” in Charlotte or anywhere else, for that matter. The practitioners of such body language posture themselves as being above what is going on in the room, court, “church” hall, etc. I have tried to find Scriptural examples where such body language in the presence of God might have acceptance in Heaven. To date I have not found any. Now that I think about it, I think it’s called “contempt of court.”

Love!

P.S. There is a crying need to get the word “repentance” back, at least, for openers.

Out of Babylon and Into…?

refugee
The following is a journey of going through Jay’s posts and finding references to “Babylon”.  It was an enlightening path to take.  I hope you find it to be profitable as well…

“The citizenship of the Kingdom of God is composed of lovers. The citizenship of earthly kingdoms, and the prostitute with whom they keep company, “Babylon the Great, mother of Harlots,” is made up of merchants of one kind or another, but all with an agenda of getting.”   ~ http://bit.ly/1a3GDsT

“Getting out of Babylon, it seems, is a call to every one of us, but where are we to go if we are given no alternative? Does “the gospel” consign us to some kind of mental holding pattern until Jesus comes back? Why should people living in darkness want a piece of that action?”

We need to live in the Spirit’s alternative to Babylon; we need to live there now. My experience tells me that this is well within reach of the faith once delivered to the saints, and still available even in our own day. What we are presently calling “church” isn’t fooling anyone, except perhaps ourselves.”  ~ http://bit.ly/1fMAad3

If those who are His are going to be called out of Babylon, they must have a clearer understanding, not only of that from which they are being called out, but that into which they are being called.  As it is, the saints seem to be continually called from one Babylon to another, by one blind guide to the next, and the only things that change are the male egos being gratified. And, in our own day, even female egos are beginning to get in on the act.

I confess again, that I may not know the Father’s timing, but for me, I think that this has gone on long enough.  My heart’s desire is for the city of God’s making, not the cities of man’s doing.” ~ http://bit.ly/175v2r8

“I have no business trying to call God’s people out of Babylon, until I am manifestly living somewhere else. The People of God need an alternative place to live.  I call that place, ‘relationships that come from God.’  ~ http://bit.ly/MEyWRA

“Are we prepared to do whatever is necessary to get the objects of God’s affection out of Babylon, and Babylon out of the objects of God’s affection?”  ~http://bit.ly/18yVyfI
